Titisee

Titisee-Neustadt, Germany

Nature

A glacial lake in the high Black Forest, ringed by spruce-covered hills, with a lakeside promenade and rowing boats for hire. Come on a weekday morning in summer or autumn, as the lakefront gets busy by midday.

Lake Titisee in the southern Black Forest owes its origin to the Ice Age Feldberg glacier. It covers about 1.07 km² and is around 20 m deep on average. The town of Titisee-Neustadt lies on its northern shore. The lake is home to pike, zander, perch, roach and char, among others.

An 8 km path circles the lake, and there is also a shorter loop of about 6 km and a path along the Gutach stream. In summer you can swim, hire boats or take a boat trip of about 25 minutes. Allow two to three hours for a walk around the lake. On sunny weekends and around midday the lakeside promenade is very busy; it is quieter early in the day or on weekdays.
