History

A campus with the presidential library, a museum, the boyhood home and the family burial chapel on the Kansas plains. Allow two to three hours and start with the museum before walking the grounds.

The grounds in Abilene cover about 9 hectares (22 acres) and hold five buildings: the museum (dedicated on November 11, 1954), the library (dedicated in 1962, with about 30 million pages of archival material), the visitor center from 1975, the Eisenhower family's boyhood home and the Place of Meditation. Dwight D. Eisenhower, his wife Mamie and their son Doud are buried there. The library is one of 16 presidential libraries run by the National Archives.

The boyhood home, where the family lived from 1898 to 1946, is visited on tours limited to ten people; tickets are sold only on site. Allow two to three hours for the museum, the home and the grounds. The visitor center is on 4th Street.
