Playa de Gulpiyuri

A tiny sand beach in a meadow, flooded by the sea through underground tunnels in the limestone. A short walk from the road; check the tide, since the pool fills and empties through the day.
Playa de Gulpiyuri lies in the municipality of Llanes, in the parish of Naves in eastern Asturias. The beach is about 40 m long and 15 m wide on average, and lies roughly 100 m from the sea. It is a collapsed karst sinkhole connected to the sea by an underground cave. Tides and waves reach the sinkhole through this link. At high tide the beach looks like a saltwater pool. It is protected as a natural monument.
According to the tourism portal, the route there is an easy walk, and parking is available. The access is not signposted. There are no toilets, showers or lifeguards, and no warning system. Allow about an hour and plan your visit around the tides, as the water level changes during the day.
