GRAMMY Museum Mississippi

Cleveland, MS

History

A music museum in the Delta that follows the state's role in blues, gospel, country and rock through interactive displays and recordings. It makes a good rainy-day stop on a Delta road trip; plan one to two hours.

The GRAMMY Museum Mississippi opened on March 5, 2016, on the Delta State University campus in Cleveland. Across about 28,000 square feet (2,600 m²), it presents interactive exhibits with touch screens; the corrugated-metal facade recalls sharecropper shacks, and the entrance has a wide front porch. Highlights include the 140-seat Sanders Soundstage, an interactive dance floor and the Roland Room with electronic instruments.

One focus is musicians from Mississippi; stage outfits worn by artists such as Beyoncé and Taylor Swift are also on display. Cleveland lies on Highway 61 between Memphis and New Orleans. On the same campus, the Delta Music Institute offers degree programs in music production and the music business. Allow one to two hours and check opening hours beforehand.
