Finland’s Archipelago Trail from Turku

Route description

Start in Turku, Finland’s oldest city, with its castle and cathedral. Route 180 leads south-west over bridges to Parainen, and then the first ferry takes you across to Nagu, a Swedish-speaking island parish with a small harbour and café culture.

The road continues to Korpo, at the edge of the outer archipelago, where smooth granite islets and lighthouses stretch to the horizon. From Korpo more ferries carry you north to Houtskär and then Iniö, before the last crossing lands at Kustavi on the mainland side.

Most crossings are free road ferries that run all day, but the connection between Houtskär and Iniö is a smaller ferry with a summer timetable and limited space, so check it before committing a motorhome. The full ring is about 250 km and works best from mid-June to mid-August.

From Kustavi drive south through Taivassalo to Naantali, a wooden old town that fills with visitors in summer when Moominworld is open. Turku is only 15 km away. Distances are short, so take your time and stay in small island campsites.
