Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory
Louisville, KY
A baseball bat factory and museum marked by a giant bat leaning against the building on Main Street. Take the factory tour to see bats being turned, and allow time for the exhibits.
The museum at 800 West Main Street in Louisville opened in July 1996. Leaning against the entrance is the world's largest baseball bat: it is 120 ft (about 37 m) tall and weighs 68,000 lb (about 31 tonnes). The building also houses Hillerich & Bradsby, the company that developed the Louisville Slugger. The factory tour typically lasts about 30 minutes and takes you through bat production at five stops. At the end, every guest receives a mini bat.
In the museum's "Bat Vault" you can hold replicas of selected bats. Lifelike figures of players such as Babe Ruth, Ted Williams and Ken Griffey Jr. stand in the exhibit. Allow about two hours for the tour and the exhibit. The downtown location makes the visit easy to combine with other sights along the Ohio River, such as the Muhammad Ali Center, only a few minutes' walk away.
