Route description
Follow the coast road from Split south to Makarska, where the Biokovo massif rises straight behind the beaches. The Biokovo Skywalk and summit road are a worthwhile detour for confident drivers, but the road is narrow and unsuitable for motorhomes.
Beyond Ploče the Neretva delta spreads out in a patchwork of canals and mandarin orchards; in October and November stalls along the road sell fruit and juice. Turn off before the Bosnian border onto the new expressway to the Pelješac bridge, which avoids the Neum corridor and its border checks.
After the bridge, turn east to Ston and Mali Ston, joined by 5 km of medieval walls; walk a section, then eat oysters and mussels from the bay. Then follow the D414 west along the peninsula through wine villages.
At Potomje a narrow tunnel leads through the ridge to the Dingač slopes, home of Croatia’s best-known red; taste it in the village cellars. The road ends at Orebić, with beaches and a ferry across to Korčula for those who want to extend the trip.
