The former porcelain factory grounds in Pécs, now a district of museums and courtyards decorated with colourful ceramic tiles and fountains. Allow a couple of hours and look up at the glazed roof details.

The Zsolnay Cultural Quarter in Pécs is the restored site of the former Zsolnay factory. Miklós Zsolnay bought the land in 1851 and production began in 1853; under Vilmos Zsolnay (1828–1900) it became the largest ceramics factory in the Monarchy, with almost 700 employees. He developed porcelain faience, pyrogranite and the shimmering eosin glaze. The five-hectare site comprises 15 listed buildings and was declared a Hungarikum in 2014.

You can see exhibitions on the family and factory history and the mausoleum with 42 lion figures; there are also a planetarium, galleries and workshops. Allow two to three hours. The quarter lies east of the centre of Pécs, European Capital of Culture in 2010.
