A small fjord village of painted wooden houses at the end of a steep mountain road from Egilsstaðir, with a blue church at the end of a rainbow-painted street. Drive the pass with care in winter, and stop at the waterfalls on the way down.

Seyðisfjörður lies in the east of Iceland at the innermost end of the fjord of the same name and is reached over the Fjarðarheiði mountain pass. The present-day settlement began in 1848 as a fishing and trading post set up by Norwegian fishermen, and it has been a trading port since the 19th century. In 1998–99 archaeologists found the remains of an 11th-century timber stave-type church, with graves, at Þórarinsstaðir. The blue church and the rainbow-coloured street beside it are famous. The Norræna ferry links the village with Denmark via the Faroe Islands.

The village has a lively arts scene, with the Skaftfell visual arts centre and the LungA School; the LungA festival was last held in 2024 (as of October 2026). Most visitors come between April and October. The Skálanes nature and heritage centre, of about 1,250 hectares, lies roughly 17 kilometres away. Allow a few hours for the village, and expect changeable weather on the drive over the pass.
