A museum on the Moselle in the village that gave its name to Europe's border-free travel area, with a small exhibition on the agreement. Stop for the riverside walk and the nearby European monument.

Schengen lies on the Moselle at the point where Luxembourg, Germany and France meet. On 14 June 1985, representatives of five states, namely Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, signed the agreement on the gradual abolition of border controls aboard the passenger ship Princesse Marie-Astrid. The European Museum opened on 13 June 2010, 25 years after the signing.

The permanent exhibition covers 200 square metres. Among other things, it features an interactive map of border changes since 1815 as well as displays on visa procedures and the Schengen Information System; one area is aimed at children. About 45 minutes is enough for a visit, plus a walk along the banks of the Moselle. According to the tourist office, the museum is currently closed for renovation (as of October 2026). Please check before you travel whether it has reopened.
