A Roman bathing complex next to Bath Abbey, where a route leads past the steaming sacred spring and the ancient pools. Use the park-and-ride on the edge of Bath, as parking in the centre is limited.

The Roman Baths of Bath go back to a temple built between AD 60 and 70. The hot spring emerges at around 46 °C and delivers about 1.17 million litres a day; rainwater seeps into the limestone of the Mendip Hills and is heated at a depth of 2,700 to 4,300 m. Sights include the Great Bath with its lead lining, the sacred spring, and the Temple of Sulis Minerva with the Gorgon's head in its pediment. The museum building dates from the Victorian era, and the site has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site City of Bath since 1987.

The adjoining Pump Room was begun by Thomas Baldwin in 1789 and completed by John Palmer in 1799. More than a million people visit each year, so early mornings are quieter. Bathing has not been possible since 1978, when a disease-causing organism was discovered in the water. Allow one to two hours and use the park-and-ride sites on the edge of the city.
