Old watermills and wooden houses built among small waterfalls where the Slunjčica joins the Korana. Walk the footpaths between the cascades, wear shoes with grip as the planks are wet, and stop here on the way to Plitvice.

Rastoke is a small village in Slunj, where the Slunjčica flows into the Korana. The Slunjčica spills over a tufa barrier and forms numerous cascades and waterfalls, among them Buk, Hrvoje and Vilina kosa (“Fairy Hair”). At its peak, up to 22 mills operated here, grinding grain and processing textiles since the 17th century. Rastoke has been protected as a cultural monument since 1969; damage from the 1991–1995 war has largely been repaired.

A walk along the footpaths between the cascades takes about one to two hours. Wear shoes with good grip, as the walkways and stones are wet. Rastoke is a convenient stop on the way to Plitvice Lakes; try to arrive in the morning, before the tour buses.
