A quiet ridge above the Little Bighorn River where the 1876 battle took place, with markers, a visitor center and a drive along the ridge. Allow two hours, bring water and walk the memorials to understand both sides.

On June 25 and 26, 1876, Lakota, Northern Cheyenne and Arapaho fought the 7th Cavalry Regiment under Lieutenant Colonel George Custer here. The site near Crow Agency, Montana, covers about 765 acres (310 ha). It has been protected as a national cemetery since 1879 and has carried its present name since 1991. White marble markers show where soldiers fell, and since 1999 red granite markers have marked the places where warriors died. A granite memorial to the cavalry, erected in 1881, stands on Last Stand Hill; the Indian Memorial was completed in 2003.

A road about 4.5 miles (7 km) long leads to the Reno-Benteen site, where roughly 350 soldiers held their position. Allow two to three hours if you also visit the memorials on foot, and bring water. The visitor center is being rebuilt; a temporary contact station is open, and parking is limited (as of October 2026). The site is open year-round. For current information on access and exhibits, check with the park.
