A wooded lake park in the Turtle Mountains, a green change from the surrounding prairie, with trails, a swimming beach and boating on the lake. Autumn colors are a good reason to come, and the International Peace Garden lies farther east along the same hills.

Lake Metigoshe State Park was established in 1937 and covers about 610 ha (1,509 acres) on the shore of Lake Metigoshe in the Turtle Mountains, roughly 23 km (14 miles) northeast of Bottineau near the Canadian border. The name comes from Ojibwe and means roughly "clearwater lake of scrub oaks." The lake holds northern pike, walleye and perch. The Turtle Mountain Outdoor Learning Center offers programs on ecology and conservation.

In summer you can swim, canoe, sail and water-ski; in winter, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, ice fishing and sledding are popular. There are both modern and primitive campgrounds. Allow at least half a day, or one to two nights if you camp.
