A well-preserved village of timber-framed and stone houses around Lacock Abbey, often used as a film location. Park at the edge of the village and walk the four short streets, and visit early to avoid the tour groups.

Lacock in Wiltshire, about 5 km south of Chippenham, is owned almost entirely by the National Trust and has kept its historic character. The medieval street layout is still recognisable, and the village is already mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. In 1232 Ela, Countess of Salisbury, founded Lacock Abbey; the photography pioneer William Henry Fox Talbot later lived here, and a museum commemorates him. In 1944 the estate passed to the National Trust.

Because of its unspoilt appearance, Lacock is often used as a film set, for example for "Pride and Prejudice" (1995), the Harry Potter films and "Downton Abbey". The village is easy to explore on foot, and there are the abbey with its cloisters and the Fox Talbot Museum. Parking is limited: please park only in designated areas, out of consideration for residents.
