A whitewashed village of steep, flower-lined lanes with Moorish street plans, a few kilometres inland from Nerja. Use the car park at the edge and walk up; the lanes are narrow and steep.

Frigiliana lies at about 320 m above sea level in the province of Málaga, some 6 km north of Nerja. The old quarter consists of steep cobbled lanes with whitewashed, flower-decked houses in the Mudéjar style. The village played a part in the Morisco uprising of 1569: after the rebels surrendered, its castle was destroyed by Christian troops. Twelve ceramic panels from 1982 recall the uprising and the Battle of the Peñón de Frigiliana. The Palacio de los Condes de Frigiliana houses a factory regarded as the only working sugar cane honey factory in Europe.

Between 1961 and 1988 the village won several awards for its appearance. Allow one to two hours for the walk and wear sturdy shoes, as the lanes climb steeply. The Sugar Cane Honey Festival takes place in the first week of May.
