A former railway station with a huge half-dome rotunda and large mosaics, now home to several museums. Step into the rotunda even if you skip the exhibits, and park in the lot in front of the building.

Cincinnati Union Terminal was built between 1928 and 1933 and opened in March 1933. The firm Fellheimer & Wagner designed an Art Deco railway station. Its heart is the rotunda, with a half-dome 180 feet (55 m) wide and 106 feet (32 m) high, regarded as the largest half-dome in the Western Hemisphere until the Sydney Opera House was completed in 1973. The German-American artist Winold Reiss designed mosaics, including two large murals on the history of Cincinnati and the United States. The building is a National Historic Landmark.

Today it houses the Cincinnati Museum Center, which includes a history museum, a natural history museum, and a children's museum. A $228 million renovation was completed in 2018. Even without visiting an exhibition, a short look at the rotunda is worthwhile, and 20 to 30 minutes is enough. The rotunda is most beautiful in daylight; allow several hours for the museums.
