A village of old timber houses within Lonjsko Polje Nature Park, known for the white storks that nest on its roofs. Visit in spring or early summer to see the nests occupied, and keep to the quiet road through the village.

Čigoć lies in the Sava floodplains in Lonjsko Polje Nature Park and in 1994 was the first municipality to be recognised by EuroNatur as a “European Stork Village”. The village is home to one of the largest white stork colonies in Europe: in June 2024, 18 pairs of storks occupied nests on the roofs of the timber houses (as of June 2024). The pastures of the floodplain, grazed by old livestock breeds, give the storks plenty of food; many other wetland species live here too.

The best time to come is spring or early summer, when the nests are occupied. Viewing the street with its timber houses takes about an hour, longer with a walk in the surroundings. Keep to the quiet village road and do not disturb the residents or the birds.
