# RV height and weight: avoiding low bridges and weak roads

Every year, RVs hit bridges they could have avoided. Almost always, the driver had guessed the rig's height or trusted a car navigation app.

## Measure once, properly

Measure from the ground to the highest point on the roof, including the air conditioner, antenna and solar panels, while the rig is loaded. Write the number on a label and put it on the dashboard.

## Know the restrictions

Watch for historic parkway tunnels, old railroad underpasses and weight-limited bridges on back roads. Some tunnels ban propane. Park roads such as Going-to-the-Sun have limits on length as well as height.

## Plan with a profile
