Across much of Europe, towns provide parking areas where motorhomes can stay the night. They are usually cheaper than campsites and often right next to the old town.

## What to expect

Most have a service point for fresh water and waste. Some are free, others charge a small fee by card or at a machine. They are for self-contained vehicles, so tables, chairs and awnings are usually not allowed.

## Good manners

Respect the posted stay limit, keep noise down and leave the spot cleaner than you found it. At farm and winery stopovers, buying some of their produce is the unwritten price of the night.
