# Off-season camping in southern Europe

When the summer crowds leave, the south of Europe becomes one of the best places to travel by campervan. Portugal’s Algarve, southern Spain and Sicily stay mild for much of the winter.

## What changes

Many coastal campsites close from November to March, so check opening dates. Those that stay open often offer long-stay discounts, and off-season camping cards can cut prices further.

Days are short, so plan shorter driving stages and arrive before dark. Nights can be cold even when afternoons are warm, so bring a heater that works on your hookup.
