## Route description

From Härnösand follow the E4 north to the High Coast Bridge over the mouth of the Ångerman river, where the scenery changes from farmland to steep forested hills dropping into the sea. The land here has risen by around 286 m since the Ice Age, the highest known shoreline rise in the world.

Leave the E4 for the old coast road through Nordingrå, a slower route past fishing villages, red cabins and small bays. Skuleberget, a steep mountain beside the E4 near Docksta, has a via ferrata and a cable car to the summit.

Skuleskogen National Park lies between the road and the sea, with pine forest, rocky shores and the Slåttdalsskrevan gorge, a crack 200 m long and 40 m deep. Enter from the southern or northern car park and allow several hours for the walk to the gorge and back.

The route ends in Örnsköldsvik on the E4. The best season is June to September, when the paths are dry and the days long; bring insect repellent and sturdy shoes for the rocky trails.
