## Route description

From Brno drive south-west to Znojmo, a hilltop town above the Dyje with a Romanesque rotunda and a maze of medieval cellars under the streets. The Podyjí National Park and its vineyards begin just west of town.

Country roads lead east through wine villages to Mikulov, crowned by its château and the white chapel on Holy Hill. Climb the hill at sunset, then drive north past the Pálava ridge, where a steep path from Pavlov leads to the ruins of Děvičky above the Nové Mlýny lakes.

The last day belongs to the Lednice–Valtice landscape, a UNESCO-listed park of nearly 300 km² that the Liechtenstein family filled with châteaux, follies and avenues. Hire bikes at Lednice to reach the minaret and the colonnades, and end at Valtice, where the château cellars hold the national wine salon.

This is flat, easy driving and good cycling country. Late September and October bring the harvest and the young burčák wine; many small cellars open for tastings without booking, but arrange a driver or stay overnight.

6. **Lednice Château** (Lednice, Czechia): A neo-Gothic château in a huge landscaped park with a minaret, a greenhouse and follies, part of the Lednice–Valtice UNESCO landscape. The park is best explored by bike or boat.
