## Route description

Kamnik, 25 km north of Ljubljana, is a small old town under the Kamnik Alps. Drive up the Kamniška Bistrica valley to the lower station of the cable car to Velika Planina, a vast high pasture of oval wooden huts where herders still spend the summer and sell curd and sour milk.

From Kamnik the road climbs over the Črnivec pass and down the Upper Savinja valley through Luče, with the river running green between steep forested slopes. The Solčava panoramic road, a narrow road along the hillside above the valley, offers the best views of the peaks.

At Solčava turn into the Logar Valley, a 7 km glacial trough of farms and meadows closed by a wall of limestone. A small toll is charged in season, and the road ends at a car park below the 90 m Rinka waterfall.

The valley has farm stays and a campsite, and is lovely in late spring and in autumn. Continue to Austria over the Pavličevo sedlo pass or return via the Savinja valley; the narrow Solčava panoramic road is not suitable for large motorhomes.
