## Route description

Take the D10 motorway from Prague to Turnov, about an hour away, the gateway to Český ráj, the Bohemian Paradise. The town is known for garnet jewellery and makes a good base, with several campsites nearby.

South of Turnov, trails from Hrubá Skála castle wind through narrow passages between sandstone towers to viewpoints over the rock town. The twin ruins of Trosky stand on two volcanic plugs a few kilometres further on, the landmark of the whole region.

The Prachov Rocks near Jičín are another sandstone maze, with stairways cut into the cliffs and a two-hour circuit. Jičín itself has an arcaded square and a lime-tree avenue laid out by Wallenstein.

Finish with an hour’s drive north-east to Adršpach on the Polish border, the most extensive rock town of all. In summer and at weekends entry is limited and car parks fill by mid-morning, so book online and arrive early, or come in autumn when the forest turns gold.

5. **Prachov Rocks** (Jičín, Czechia): Sandstone pillars and narrow gullies linked by stairways and viewpoints, a few kilometres from Jičín. The short circuit takes about two hours.

7. **Adršpach Rock Town** (Adršpach, Czechia): A vast labyrinth of sandstone towers with a small lake and a boat ride through a gorge. Summer car parks fill early and entry slots may need booking online.
