## Before you go

- Tidal River is the hub for camping, short walks and wildlife, and sites need booking well ahead in summer.
- Overnight hikes need a permit, and weather can change quickly, so carry water and wet-weather gear.
- Wombats and kangaroos approach campers, but they are wild animals, so do not feed them and keep food secured.

## Beaches and short walks

Squeaky Beach and Picnic Bay lie north of Tidal River, with squeaky white sand and granite boulders. Norman Beach beside the camping area is good for a beach walk. Swim only in calm conditions, as surf and rips can be strong.

## The remote south

The 1859 lighthouse and South Point lie in the park's remote south and are reached on foot. The lightstation cottages offer overnight stays, but you must carry your supplies and check walking conditions before leaving.

**How far is Wilsons Promontory from Melbourne?**
About 220 km, roughly 3 hours by car, mostly on the South Gippsland Highway. Tidal River is another 30 km or so inside the park from the entrance.

**Do I need to book to visit the Prom?**
Day visits do not usually need a booking, but camping and overnight hikes do and fill early in summer. Check Parks Victoria for current conditions and closures.
